Creating Safer Care Environments Through Proactive Strategies
This training is designed to provide system-based practice recommendations aimed at reducing and mitigating the risk of patient-initiated harm in the care environment. Participants will learn how to recognize warning signs, apply prevention strategies, and respond appropriately to protect patients, staff, physicians, contractors, and visitors.
Key Topics Include:
- Identifying risk factors and behavioral indicators
- Implementing safety protocols and de-escalation strategies
- Team-based approaches to managing aggressive or harmful behavior
- Promoting a culture of safety and awareness

This essential course is designed to prepare new security team members for the critical responsibilities of being a healthcare security professional. You’ll gain a strong foundation in healthcare-specific protocols, emergency response procedures, and the unique expectations of operating in a patient-centered environment.
Course Topics Include:
- Your role as a first responder to high-level threats (e.g., Code Silver: weapon involvement)
- Managing and reporting criminal activity in healthcare settings
- Effective patrol procedures for exterior areas such as parking structures and emergency department perimeters
- Understanding the healthcare environment, including patient safety, confidentiality, and staff collaboration
- Emergency management and coordination with clinical teams
Who should attend: Newly assigned Armed Protection Officers
